NEC earns four-game sweep of Lyndon

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College baseball team completed the four-game sweep of  Lyndon, taking two games from the Hornets on Sunday.  NEC topped Lyndon State 5-3 in game one and the Pilgrims edged the Hornets 2-1 in game two.
 
In game one, the two teams would enter the home half of the sixth inning knotted at 3-3 before NEC's Kevin Caputo  would lead off the sixth with a solo homerun over the left field fence followed by a single by Juan Berrios who would come around to score on a Hornet error. Lyndon would have a runner in scoring position in the seventh but NEC's Chris Wallace would pitch out of the jam.
 
Leading the way for NEC Caputo who finished with two hits and two runs batted in and Berrios who also collected two hits in game one. Picking up the complete game victory for NEC was Wallace who allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight.
 
Leading the way for Lyndon was Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, Vt.) who had two hits, including a double. Shayne Kirby (Fairfax, Vt.) singled in two runs for the Hornets.   
 
In game two, NEC's Andrew Guerico would allow just one run on four hits and strike out six en route to the 2-1 complete game victory.  NEC would muster a run in the fifth but Lyndon would respond as Brandon Flood (South Ryegate, Vt.) would reach on an error and come around to score on a double by Tyler Pelletier (St. Albans, Vt.) tying the game at 1-1 in the sixth. 

NEC would get the game-winning run in the sixth as Christopher Smith would single and come around to score on two Hornet errors. Four different Pilgrims recorded a hit in the game, including Tyler Perrin, who singled in NEC's run in the fifth. Pelletier finished game two with two hits for Lyndon and Quinn Rambo (Avon, Ohio) doubled for the Hornets. 

On Saturday, New England College grabbed its first North Eastern Athletic Conference East victories of the season sweeping Lyndon, winning game one 4-3 in 10 innings and shutting out the Hornets 3-0 in game two.
 
In game one NEC's Chris Biskup would hit a one-out single to score Francesco DiRe in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Pilgrims would edge the Hornets 4-3.  NEC would open the scoring with a run in the first and two in the second before Lyndon would plate a run in the third and two in the sixth knotting the game at 3-3. Neither team would muster a run in the seventh forcing the extra frames.
 
Leading the way for was Smith who was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in.  Pierce Byrd and Biskup each recorded two hits as well for the Pilgrims. Picking up the win on the mound was DiRe who allowed no runs on three hits in two innings of work. Leading the way for Lyndon State was Pelletier and Isaac Earle (Vernon, Vt.) who each recorded two hits and had a run batted in. 
 
In game two, Perrin would allow just four Hornet hits en route to the 3-0 shutout victory. Leading the way for NEC was Lucas Burgess who finished with two hits and a run batted in and Byrd and Caputo who each doubled. Four different batters had hits for Lyndon, including Earle who doubled. On the mound for Lyndon was Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.) who allowed just three runs and struck out five.
