Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine – Thomas College notched its first and second North Atlantic Conference victories of the season at Husson University in a neutral site match up with Lyndon. The Terriers won the opener defeating the Hornets 8-7, and in the night cap, the Terriers squeaked out a 3-2 win.
In the Game 1, the Terriers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Ben Goodall started the Terriers off with their first tally when he hit a run-scoring double sending Cody Vigue across home plate for the 1-0 lead. The following batter, Rob Nutter reached first on a Lyndon error sending Goodall to second.
Joshua Gray's single loaded the bases for the Terriers and after Josh Nickerson went down looking, Eric Sucy drove in three runs when he reached on another Lyndon error. The Terriers ended the inning when John Charves grounded out, leaving Sucy on third.
Neither team brought in a run till the top of the fourth when Lyndon's Korey Marsh (Essex, Vt.) singled driving in Jake Anisworth (Fairfax, Vt.) for an unearned run. The Hornets were able to drive in two more runs off singles before Marsh would cross home plate on a Terriers wild pitch tying the game 4-4.
Lyndon managed to take the lead in the top of the fifth when Marsh reached on a Terriers error sending in two unearned runs for the 6-4 lead.
Lyndon held the 6-4 lead till the bottom of the sixth when Vigue drove in three runs with a double. Goodall was able to bring Vigue home with a sacrifice fly for the 8-6 lead. In the top of the seventh the Hornets were able to come within one of Thomas, but Thomas pitcher Tom Babb was able to strike out the final two Hornets for the save.
Starting pitcher Jake Chamblee gets the win for Thomas while Isaac Earl (Vernon, Vt.) takes the loss for the Hornets.
In the nightcap, the Terriers found themselves trailing the Hornets 1-0 after the first inning after Lyndon's Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, Vt.) blasted a Sucy pitch for a RBI. The Terriers got on the board in the bottom of the second when Daniel Ierardi brought in Nickerson on a sacrifice fly for the 1-1 tie.
With the bases loaded Lyndon pitcher Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.), walked Nickerson bringing home the go ahead run. Terriers brought in another run when O'Donnell-Leach walked Charves with the bases loaded.
Going into the seventh inning the Terriers held a 3-1 lead; with one out and a runner on third Earle hit a RBI single to bring the Hornets back within one. Sucy struck out the next batter but hit the following to load the bases. With two outs and the bases loaded, Lyndon's David Deming (LIsbon, N.H.) blasted what looked to be a RBI single till Thomas shortstop Jeff Richardson made a leaping game winning catch.
