BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -  Zachary Sullivan rapped out three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-1 nightcap victory and a sweep of a non-league college baseball doubleheader of Lyndon Saturday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The Buccaneers used a two-out, two strike single off the bat of Greg Wiggin in the bottom of the eighth inning of the opener to claim a 4-3 triumph in the first outing of the twinbill.

The host Buccaneers (2-3) overcame an early 1-0 deficit in the opener to even matters at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a suicide squeeze by Michael Vargas, but the visiting Hornets took a 2-1 cushion in the top of the fourth when Cody Gage (Newport, Vt.) scored on an error. But Lyndon forged the extra frame by evening matters in the top of the seventh on a one-out double by Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, Vt.), setting up the hosts' heroics in the bottom of the eighth, as Mulhern singled with one out and was pinch-run for by Brendan O'Kane, who advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored the deciding run on Wiggin's single to center.

Maher collected two of Massachusetts Maritime's six hits in the opener, as fellow Nick Thomas earned his first career victory for the Buccaneers by fanning three in two innings of work. Corey Murphy allowed just one hit and an unearned run in four innings of work for the hosts, who also received a pair of scoreless frames to go with three strikeouts from Jared Lowe.

Lyndon State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat of the nightcap on an RBI single off the bat of Shawn Lonardelli (Lebanon, Conn.), but Massachusetts Maritime evened matters in the third on an RBI double by Sullivan, who then snapped the tie with a two-out RBI single in the fifth that followed a double off the bat of Nick Levitre. Mulhern followed with an RBI double of his own to extend the Buccaneer lead to 3-1, and a suicide squeeze off the bat of Andrew Saari in the bottom of the sixth closed out the scoring.
