Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass.- Becker College rallied from
an 8-2 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Hawks
swept Lyndon in a non –conference baseball double header by
scores of 11-8 and 12-0.
Westeon Meehan got the Becker rally started when he belted a
two-run homerun over the centerfield fence, making the score 8-4.
After back to back singles, Donnie Ballsieper ripped a triple into
the right centerfield gap, plating two more runs and putting the
Hawks within two at 8-6. Tony D'Addio made it a one run game
when he singled to centerfield, scoring Ballsieper.
After a single from Keith Kandel pushed D'Addio into
scoring position, the Hawks completed the rally when Joe Corey
single up the middle tying the game at eight all. With runners on
the corners Lyndon State pitcher Jake Ainsworth
(Fairfax, Vt.) balked when the Hawks attempted a suicide squeeze
and Keith Kandel was allowed to advance home with the eventual game
winning run.
Joe Franchi earned his second win of the season after pitching
two and a third innings, allowing one run on two hits in relief.
Jeff Dilorenzo earned the save after striking out the side in the
bottom of the seventh. Zach Maerder (Woodsville,
Vt.) and Ainsworth, who was tagged with loss, had two hits each for
the Hornets.
In the nightcap, the Hawks dominated the Hornets, pounding out
14 hits.Meehan hit two more homeruns as he finished the day going
six for seven with seven runs batted in. Ryan Sczerbinski chipped
in with his first collegiate homerun as the Hawks soared to a 12-0
win. Becker starter Jeff Dilorenzo earned the win after pitching
four hitless innings.
Ben Clark (Brattleboro, Vt.) had the lone
Lyndon hit in the contest and Patrick Hilton
(Lyndonville, Vt.) was credited with the loss.
