Box Score 2 FARMINGTON, Maine - Brett Wallingford's
two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh propelled the
University of Maine at Farmington baseball team to a split
with Lyndon in a North Eastern Athletic
Conference matchup at UMF's Hippach Field. The Hornets
grabbed a 2-0 win in the opener with the Beavers slipped away with
a 6-5 victory in Game 2.
In Game 1, Lyndon's Shane O'Donnell-Leach
(Groton, Vt.) outdueled Farmington's Bill Ridge to earn the shutout
victory. He scattered six hits with a walk and three
strikeouts while Ridge allowed five hits with three
strikeouts.
Corey Lescault (Bristol, R.I.) drove in a run
with a single in the third and Stetson Hicks
(Whitefield, N.H.) scampered home on a wild pitch in the fifth for
the two Lyndon runs. Hicks and Lescault each singled twice for the
Hornets.
In the nightcap, Wallingford's blast closed out a three-run
rally for the Beavers.With Farmington trailing 5-3, Josh Garneau
doubled home Matt Levine to cut the deficit to 5-4. After Matt
Judkins reached on a fielder's choice, Wallingford
delivered his blast to centerfield to give the Beavers the
win.
Garneau coupled a pair of singles and an RBI double
for Farmington, while Wallingford also had a single. Zach Keene
supplied two singles and an RBI for the winners and Ryan
DiPompo earned a victory in an inning of relief with two walks.
Lescault led Lyndon with two singles. He and Ben Clark (Brattleboro, Vt.) had a run-scoring hit in the
fourth as the Hornets took a 3-1 lead. They padded their advantage
with a pair of runs off an error in the sixth. Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, Vt.) recorded only one out in relief
in the seventh in taking the loss.
