Box Score 2 CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton State
College baseball team came from behind to secure a 6-5 win in game
one against North Eastern Athletic Conference East opponent, Lyndon
State College, and Matt Greene stymied the Hornets offense in game
two, 9-1, to complete a doubleheader sweep.
In Game one, Brandon Fay went the distance pitching seven
innings allowing five runs on eight hits, two walks and six
strikeouts moving to 3-1 on the season. Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.) suffered the loss on
six innings of work, seven hits, six runs (two earned), four walks
and seven strikeouts.
Ben Clark (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, Vt.) led Lyndon St. offensively. Clark
went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run scored and two runs driven
in while Ainsworth went 2-for-2 with a double, one run and one RBI.
Billy Manley was 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI for the Spartans
and Jack Lancelin was 1-for-4 with one run driven in.
In Game two, Manley who went 2-for-4, including his first home
run of the season off Hornets' starter Patrick Hilton (Lyndonville, Vt.) to get the offense rolling in
the bottom of the third. Cameron Curler, Mills and Brandt all
picked up RBI's in the inning for a four-run outburst that
gave the Spartans a 6-1 lead they never looked back on. Hilton
suffered the loss on five innings pitched, 12 hits, nine runs
(seven earned), two walks and no strikeouts.
