Box Score 2 BETHPAGE , N.Y. - Lyndon fell
to 1-4 on the season with a doubleheader loss to Briarcliffe
College. The Seahawks won Game 1 of the twin bill by a score of 6-1
before recording a 9-4 victory in Game 2.
In the opener, Vin Aprano went the distance, striking out six
Lyndon hitters along the way, to get the win. Sam Braverman's
two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth was the hightlight of
the contest as Briarcliffe jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three
innings of play and never looked back.
Zach Maerder (Woodsville, N.H.) had two hits
for the Hornets while Shane O'Donnell-Leach
(Groton, Vt.) took the loss. He went six innings, allowing six runs
- three earned - on six hits while striking out five. Jake Ainsworth's (Fairfax, Vt.) solo homer in the second
accounted for the lone Lyndon run of the game.
In the nightcap, Seahawk hurler Luis Santiago fanned 12 Hornet
hitters en route to a complete game victory. He allowed four runs
on four hits and walked two. Batterymate Anthony Mele pounded out
three hits in the contest while Braverman and Joe Solomeno chipped
in two each. One of Braverman's hits was his second homerun of the
day, a three-run shot in the third.
Ainsworth had two doubles to lead Lyndon and Shane Fleury (Plainfield, Vt.) was credited with the loss. He
went four innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits while striking
out four and walking one.
