Box Score 2 BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Lyndon State gained
a split of a non-league college baseball doubleheader as the
Hornets used a three-run fifth inning rally to post a 4-3 victory
in the opener of a twinbill against Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
In the nightcap, the Buccaneers responded with a 13-5 win over
Lyndon.
The Buccaneers grabbed a 2-0 first inning lead in the game one,
but Lyndon State took the lead for good with a three-run fifth
inning uprising. Zach Maerder's (Woodsville,
N.H.) RBI double plated the first Hornet run and Ben Clark (Brattleboro, Vt.) gave the visitors a 3-2 edge with
a two-run single. Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, Vt.)
plated a key insurance run in the top of the seventh with a bases
loaded walk, and came on to record the final two outs in the bottom
of the frame for his second save of the season in support of
starter Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, Vt.).
O'Donnell-Leach scattered seven hits and fanned seven to earn the
victory.
Joe Albano went 4-for-4 in the nightcap for the Buccaneers, who
also received three hits each from Wil Rodriguez, Nick Levitre and
Brad Musk. Tyler Genereux joined Greg Wiggin with two hits for the
hosts in support of junior Corey Murphy, who scattered nine hits
and fanned six over five innings to pick up the win. Shayne Kirby (Fairfax, Vt.) rapped out three hits in the second
game for Lyndon, which also received a pair of hits from Clark as
part of a nine-hit attack. Patrick Hilton
(Lyndonville, Vt.) suffered the loss on the mound for the
Hornets.
