Hawa Mubarak of state champion Burlington High commits to VTSU Lyndon women's basketball

Lyndonville, VT -  Hawa Mubarak (Burlington, VT) of Burlington High School in Burlington, VT, has deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball program for the 2025-26 season.  She has not yet declared a major.

Mubarak, a 5'8" forward, helped lead Burlington to its first Vermont Principals Association Division 1 State Championship in 49 years in 2024-25.  She was a two-year varsity player and a consistent double figure scorer for the Seawolves.

VTSU Lyndon assistant coach Saleena Porter recruited Mubarak and is excited to have her join the Hornets.  "Hawa brings a lot to the court as a freshman.  She is able to score the ball at all three levels and is very athletic on top of that.  She comes from a championship team, playing with other strong players and good coaching.  We are thrilled to add Hawa to the roster.  I am excited to see how she fits into our program and play style, along with seeing how she can grow in the upcoming years."

Burlington hea coach Beverlis Robertson praised Mubarak's all-around game.  "Hawa can score but she's a wonderful defender.  When she puts her mind to it she can really defend.  You will be getting a good ball player."

Burlington assistant coach Klaire Woll said of Mubarak "She plays the game with pure joy and unwavering dedication—a player whose heart is in every pass, rebound, and hustle.  Humble in her success and nonchalant in the face of pressure, she carries herself with a quiet confidence that inspires those around her.  No matter the challenges she's faced off the court, she never lets them define her.  Instead, she shows up every day for her teammates—supporting them, lifting them, and putting the team first, always.  Her love for the game is matched only by the love she gives to those who share the court with her."

Mubarak joins Keira Quintal (Sheffield, VT), Za'Khia Germany (Tulsa, OK), Haylee Walker (Sierra Blanca, TX), Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH), Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Thornton, CO), Jada Lewis (Montpelier, VT), Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY), Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ) and Taliyah Carter (Ozark, AL) in VTSU Lyndon's 2025-26 class.  The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future.
