Alabama guard Taliyah Carter commits to VTSU Lyndon women's basketball

Lyndonville, VT - Taliyah Carter (Ozark, AL) of Carroll High School in Ozark, AL, has deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball program for the 2025-26 season.  She will study Exercise Science with a concentration in Pre-Professional Physical Therapy.

Carter, a 5'5" point guard, led Carroll to a 12-7 record, an undefeated record in Alabama High School Athletic Association .5A Area 4 play, and a berth in the 5A state tournament this past season.  She was named to the 5A Area 4 All-Topurnament Team and was named her team's Most Valuable Player while averaging 16 points, 3 steals, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds per game.  A three-year varsity player, Carter also led the Eagles to the state tournament as a junior and a sophomore.

Carter was also an excellent student in high school.  She was consistently named to the A and A/B Honor Rolls.  She was a member of Mu Alpha Theta and is working to become a certified Patient Care Technician.

VTSU Lyndon assistant coach Saleena Porter recruited Carter.  She commented  "Taliyah brings great energy to the court and we are excited to have her join us.  She is aggressive offensively and can see the court well.  Taliyah is also an excellent student and will be a great addition to the Exercise Science Program.  I can't wait to work with her to see how she grows and develops into a great player for us!"

Jermel Bell coached Carter at Carroll.  He remarked "During my tenure of coaching Taliyah, she had one of the highest IQ's of a player that I have ever coached.  Once Taliyah learned what hard work feels and looks like she put in extra work daily during my tenure.  Her growth and development increased every year due to her passion for basketball.  Taliyah was an extended coach on and off the court.  She was the epitome of a student-athlete!!  We had what I called a Love-Hate relationship because I was hard on her pushing her to be the best!!  She was a great pleasure to coach.  I'm so proud of the direction she is continuing on."

Carter joins Keira Quintal (Sheffield, VT), Za'Khia Germany (Tulsa, OK), Haylee Walker (Sierra Blanca, TX), Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH), Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Thornton, CO), Jada Lewis (Montpelier, VT), Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) and Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ) in VTSU Lyndon's 2025-26 class.  The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future.
