Lyndonville, VT - Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ), a transfer from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, AZ, and a 2023 graduate of Coolidge High School in Coolidge, AZ, has deposited and committed to the Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball program for the 2025-26 season. She will study Applied Psychology & Human Services.
Clegg, a 5'6" forward, was a captain at South Mountain this past season. She played in 25 games for the Cougars, making 16 starts. She averaged 4.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Prior to coming to South Mountain, Clegg played one season at Southwestern Assemblies of God University American Indian College in Phoenix, AZ, in 2021-22.
In High school, Clegg played three varsity seasons and was a two-year captain at Coolidge. As a senior, she averaged 7.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.3 steals per game. She was a 2nd Team 3A South Central All-Defensive Team selection.
VTSU Lyndon assistant coach Saleena Porter recruited Clegg and believes that she will be a great addition. "Shae is going to be a great addition to our team. She is aggressive, athletic and can bring intensity and physicality to both sides of the ball. She is transferring from a two-year program, and I believe that her experiences there will be extremely beneficial in transitioning to play at the D3 level. She has an outgoing personality that will be a great fit for the team on and off the court. I am super excited to work with her in the upcoming season!"
DeeDee Gipson coached Clegg at South Mountain. She added "Shay came in to the season as a walk on. I was just kinda like wondering like OK you know she she got a little bit of something and really what it was was her tenacity. She's not high maintenance by any means. She went after loose ball. She got all the rebounds like if I put her on rebound duty or loose ball, she handled it. Very, very coachable, respectful person. I love the fact that she was a leader on and off the core you know vocally led by example verbally non-verbally. Ask questions when she didn't understand something or didn't understand her role. She's very very adaptable to the system, especially as a new coach learning what works for this program she fell right into those roles so it was definitely a pleasure coaching her. She definitely is going to sacrifice for the team sacrifice for herself. And give her coaches 110% so I'm glad that she's able to continue on with her career. I know that she'll do great things for you guys. I'm so excited to see what the season brings for y'all in and how she fits in your truck."
Clegg joins Keira Quintal (Sheffield, VT), Za'Khia Germany (Tulsa, OK), Haylee Walker (Sierra Blanca, TX), Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH), Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Thornton, CO), Jada Lewis (Montpelier, VT), and Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) in VTSU Lyndon's 2025-26 class. The Hornets expect to announce additional commits in the near future.
