Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer program has received deposits and commitments from Jarred Flores (Rockport, TX) of Rockport-Fulton High School in Rockport, TX, and Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA) of Tracy, CA. Flores will study Applied Psychology & Human Services, while Cardenas will study Communications.
Flores played both striker and midfield for Rockport-Fulton. He scored 11 goals and added seven assists in two varsity seasons with the Pirates. As a senior he was a 2nd Team University Interscholastic League District 29 All-District selection.
Flores also excelled in the classroom. He has served as a peer mentor, was nominated for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence, and was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars.
VTSU Lyndon Head coach Zach Blaser feels that Flores will provide a boost to his team's offensive production. "Jarred is a versatile offensive option, able to play as a Winger, Striker or Attacking Mid. He is a very technical player able to set up teammates in the offensive half as well as having great awareness to help defensively when needed. He will be a great addition to the team this year as we look to add more offensive depth to the roster for this upcoming season."
Cardenas was a striker and wing at Tracy, where he scored one goal with one assist. He was also active on the club soccer circuit. He was a corner kick specialist and notched nine assists in his most recent season.
Blaser believes that Cardenas will add to both the Hornet attack and his team's chemistry. "Ethan is an aggressive offensive option, able to play as a Winger or striker. He is agile and able to move through the channels, providing options when moving onto the attacking third. He is a player that was excited about the project here at the college and within the soccer program and I believe his excitement will be a great addition to the roster this upcoming season."
Cardenas's coach, JC Rodriguez, feels that his best soccer is in front of him. "What stood out the most to me about Ethan was his unwavering commitment to the team and personal growth. Despite the competition, he was always present, on time, focused and ready to contribute. Whether it was a training session or a match, Ethan brought a positive attitude, a willingness to work hard, and a fierce determination to earn a spot. Ethan is highly ambitious and possesses a deep passion for the game. He is constantly seeking feedback, puts in extra effort outside of practice and approaches each challenge with a mindset geared toward improvement. I believe that with continued development and support, Ethan has the potential to grow into a strong contributor at the collegiate level."
Flores and Cardenas join Carter Johns (Lyndonville, VT), Isaiah Petty (New Castle, DE), Perceval Hess (Sandgate, VT), Joe Buchanan (McCordsville, IN), Ryan Blaze (Clinton, MA), and Alessandro Anzalone (Eagle, ID) and Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT) in Lyndon's Fall 2025 class. The Hornets expect to announce additional commitments in the near future.
