Eight VTSU Lyndon basketball players named Academic All-District

Lyndonville, VT - Eight Vermont State University Lyndon basketball players, four men and four women, have been named to the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday.  That represents the most All-District selections ever garnered in a single season for either men's or women's basketball.

The student athletes honored include:

  • Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT), a senior women's basketball co-captain and an Outdoor Education, Leadership, & Tourism: Adventure Education major with a 3.86 grade point average.  Disorda started all 25 games for the Hornets, averaging 3.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, and was named to the North Atlantic Conference women's Basketball Sportsmanship Team.  She has played in 75 games in her Lyndon career, scoring 260 points, grabbing 232 rebounds, and dishing out 231 assists.
  • Riann Fortin (Newport, VT), a junior women's basketball player and a Childhood Education major with a 3.56 GPA.  She averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season.  she has scored 801 points and has grabbed 433 rebounds thus far in her Lyndon career.
  • Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY), a sophomore men's basketball tri-captain, and Business Administration: Management major with a 3.89 GPA.  He averaged a team best 18.1 points per game this past season, and ranked fifth in scoring in NAC play.  Gonyea was the 2022-2023 NAC Rookie of the Year and has scored 686 points in his first two seasons as a Hornet.
  • Tyrese Harris (Fort Benning, GA), a senior men's basketball four-year captain and a Business Administration: Management major with a 3.72 GPA.  He averaged 3.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this past season.  A fifth year senior, Harris has played 105 games in a Lyndon uniform, scoring 507 points, grabbing 365 rebounds, and delivering 323 assists.
  • Isaac McCann (Phoenix, AZ), a senior men's basketball player and a Business Administration: Sport Management major with a 3.50 GPA.  He averaged 2.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this past season, and was named the NAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending February 4th.  McCann has played in 63 games in his Lyndon career and has scored 110 points and grabbed 136 rebounds.
  • Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT), a graduate student women's basketball co-captain.  Porter completed her bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Sport Management last May, and is now pursuing her master's degree in Athletic Leadership.  She has a 3.58 GPA as a graduate student.  This past season, Porter averaged 7.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  She was named the NAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 12th.  Porter has played in 87 games at Lyndon, scoring 503 points and grabbing 616 rebounds.
  • Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH), a junior women's basketball player and Exercise Science: Individual Program of Study major with a 3.84 GPA.  She was named to the NAC All-Conference 3rd Team for the second year in a row this season and averaged a team high 15.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.  In three years as a Hornet, she has scored 798 points, grabbed 312 rebounds, and handed out 116 assists.
  • Aiden Trapani (Deltona, FL), a senior men's basketball tri-captain, and Exercise Science: Individual Program of Study major with a 3.61 GPA.  This past season, he averaged 4.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.  Trapani has played in 78 games in his Lyndon career, scoring 308 points and grabbing 214 rebounds.

The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America - CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.  The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The top Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.  First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 16 (women) and April 17 (men).

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
