Sage Smith and Kerigan Disorda garner NAC honors

Waterville, ME - Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball players Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) and Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT) were among those honored by the North Atlantic Conference when the NAC announced its annual women;s basketball awards today.  Conference coaches voted Smith to the All-Conference Third Team.  Disorda was named to the Sportsmanship Team.

This is the second consecutive year that Smith has been selected 3rd Team All-Conference.  This season the junior guard started all 25 games, averaging 35.3 minutes per game.  She led the Hornets in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game for the season, good for sixth in the conference.  Her 15.3 points per game average in NAC play was good for fifth place.  She also placed among the top ten in field goal percentage and free throw percentage.  She also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  Smith scored a career high 33 points in Lyndon's late season victory at the University of Maine at Presque Isle which kept the Hornets' playoff hopes alive at the time.  She recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double double in the season finale against Vermont State University Johnson, and reached double figures in 22 of 25 games.

Disorda, a senior co-captain, also started all 25 games.  She averaged 3.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, and dished out an average of 3.8 assists per contest, good for fourth in the NAC.  Selection to the NAC Sportsmanship Team is reserved for student athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the basketball culture and game environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that goes beyond the playing rules and etiquette.

The Hornets finished 11-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play, tied for fifth place in the NAC's East Division.  Smith is expected to return next season to lead the Hornets, while Disorda expects to graduate in May with her Bachelor's degree in Outdoor Education, Leadership, & Tourism.
