Lyndonville, VT - In a hard-fought North Atlantic Conference women's basketball matchup on Sunday afternoon at George W. Stannard Gym, Vermont State University Lyndon came up short in a 69–60 loss to Husson University. Lyndon fell to 9–6 overall and 4–4 in NAC play, while Husson improved to 8–5 overall and 7–2 in conference action.
The Hornets came out strong, trading baskets with the Eagles in an evenly played first quarter that ended tied at 19. Lyndon closed the second quarter on an 8-1 run to take a 32-29 lead into halftime. Lyndon scored the first two baskets of the second half to push their lead to seven, but the Eagles outscored the Hornets, 24-7, over the rest of the quarter to take a ten point lead into the final frame. Lyndon got back within four points with 3:38 to go in the game, but Husson was able to hold off the Hornets to come away with the win.
Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) led the Hornets offensively with a team-high 19 points Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ) turned in a strong all-around performance, finishing with 16 points and ten rebounds. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) also posted a double double with 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Husson was paced by Lilly Roy, who poured in 23 points to lead all scorers. Saige Evans added 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Laela Martinez chipped in 12 points.
Lyndon will return to action next Saturday when they host Vermont State University in a pivotal NAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
