Waterville, ME - Vermont State University Lyndon men's basketball player Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) has been named the North Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 8th, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Gonyea, a senior Business Administration major, led the Hornets to a pair of road victories last week.  On Thursday, Gonyea scored 27 points on nine of 15 shooting as the Hornets rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to defeat Elms College, 82-79.  Gonyea's driving layup with 14 seconds to go gave the Hornets the lead.  He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

Gonyea followed up his Thursday performance with 21 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in Lyndon's 82-78 NAC victory over Vermont State University Johnson on Saturday.  He connected on seven of 15 shots, including three of six from beyond the three-point arc, as the Hornets picked up their first NAC win at Johnson in ten seasons.  For the week Gonyea, the NAC's leading scorer to date, averaged 24 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Gonyea and the Hornets return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Norwich University in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off in Stannard Gymnasium is set for 6:00 pm.
