Program record six Hornet men's basketball players named to NABC Honors Court

Kansas City, MO - Six members of the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon (now Vermont State University Lyndon) men's basketball program have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court for the 2022-2023 academic year.  This marks the largest number of Honors Court recipients in a single season in Lyndon program history.

The Hornet program has also been named a recipient of the NABC 2022-2023 Team Academic Excellence Award.  This is the fourth consecutive time that the Hornets have earned the distinction, the only four times that the Hornets have been honored in the 11 year history of the award.

The NABC Honors Court includes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes from four-year institutions across all levels of college basketball.  The Honors Court recognizes honorees who excelled in the classroom during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Co-captains Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Tyrese Harris (Fort Benning, GA) were repeat Honors Court selections.  It was Carlisle's third consecutive selection, while Harris was honored for the second year in a row.  Luke Bergmans (Ferrisburgh, VT), Isaac McCann (Phoenix, AZ), Brett Roy (Newport, VT), and Aiden Trapani (Deltona, FL) were named to the Honors Court for the first time.

Carlisle graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in exercise science  with a strength and conditioning concentration.  He was a three-year team captain and averaged 11.4 points per game this past season.  He played 76 games in his Hornet career, scoring 775 points and shooting 37.2% from behind the three-point arc.  Carlisle will begin graduate studies this fall at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD, where he will compete for the NCAA Division II Bobcats in his final season of eligibility.

Harris is also a four-year performer and a three-year captain.  He has played 82 games in a Hornet uniform and has scored 424 points and dished out 252 assists in his career.  Harris will be returning for his final season of eligibility and will be completing a double major in business administration and accounting.

Bergmans is a junior environmental science major.  He completed his second season in the program in 2022-2023, and is expected to return for his senior season and to complete his degree this year.

McCann has played 40 games in his three-season Lyndon career.  He is a business administration major with a sport management concentration, and is expected to graduate next spring.  He is a two-sport athlete who also competes on the Hornet men's lacrosse team.

Roy, a junior criminal justice major, competed for Lyndon the past three seasons.  He played 53 games and scored 104 points.  A two-sport athlete, Roy will be transferring to Endicott College in Beverly, MA, this fall, where he is expected to play goalie on the Gull men's soccer team.

Trapani is a junior exercise major with an individualized program of study.  He has scored 198 points and grabbed 153 rebounds in his 55-game, three-season Lyndon career.  Like McCann, he is also a member of the Lyndon men's lacrosse team.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows

  1. Academically a junior, senior, or graduate student and a varsity player.
  2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 academic year.
  3. Member of a four-year institution with at least one active NABC member coach.

This marks the third consecutive year that multiple Hornets have been named to the Honors Court in the same year.  Previous Lyndon honorees include:
