Stowe,VT-- It was a challenging day for the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon Hornets as they faced off against the Thomas College Terriers in a tennis match, ultimately succumbing to an 8-1 loss Friday at Topnotch Academy.

The doubles matches kicked off the day, and the Hornets struggled to find their rhythm. In the second doubles match, Lyndon's Garrick Webster (Terryville,CT) and Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake,NY) were defeated by Thomas' Liam Gould and Gabe McPhail with a score of 8-1. The first doubles match also went in favor of Thomas, as Lyndon's Jeffrey Blais (Newport,VT) and David Gratton (Newport,VT) fell to Nick Arenas and Jose Afonso with the same score of 8-1. In the third doubles match, Lyndon's Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater,MA) and Joseph Patrick Osborn (Hanover,NH) put up a tough fight but ultimately lost to Caleb Daigeneault and Kegan Rodrigue with a score of 8-2.

Moving on to the singles matches, Lyndon continued to face challenges. In the third singles match, Webster was unable to overcome McPhail's skill and fell with a score of 6-1, 6-0. In the second singles match, Peer also faced a tough opponent in Afonso, and despite his efforts, lost with a score of 6-3, 6-0. Blais, playing in the first singles match, fought hard against Arenas but was ultimately defeated with a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Lyndon's only point of the day came from Gratton, who showed determination and skill in the fourth singles match, winning with a score of 6-2, 7-5.  However, Condon was unable to replicate the success in the fifth singles match, losing to Rodrigue with a score of 6-2, 6-3. In the sixth singles match,  James Salvas (Morrisville ,VT) also faced a tough opponent in Daigeneault, falling 6-3, 6-3.

The Hornets play again at Topnotch against Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
