Box Score Waterville, ME - In a rematch of NAC pre-season men's tennis co-favorites, Thomas College again came away with a victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, this time by a 7-2 count. The Terriers had also defeated the Hornets, 6-3, on March 27th. Thomas evens their season record at 2-2 and remains unbeaten in conference at 2-0. Lyndon falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the NAC.
The Terriers jumped in front with a sweep of the three doubles flights. Rajhan Munnings and Liam Gould of Thomas edged Lyndon's Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) and Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY), 8-6, at second doubles in the tightest of the three matches. Kegan Rodrigue and Caleb Daigneault were 8-5 winners over Bobby Saba (Mansfield, MA) and Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) at third doubles, and Jose Afonso and Gabe McPhail defeated Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and Patrick Wickstrom (Lafayette, LA), 8-3, at first doubles.
Moving to singles play, Gould picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Falkenburg in the second flight. McPhail's 6-1, 6-3 victory over Blais at third singles then clinched the match for the Terriers.
In the tightest match of the day, Alfonso was a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 winner over Wickstrom in the first flight. Lyndon's two wins came at fourth and fifth singles. Peer downed Munnings in a third set tiebreaker at #4, and Webster was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Rodrigue at #5. In the final singles flight, Daigneault emerged with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Saba.
The Hornets will travel to Colby-Sawyer College for a 3:30 pm non-conference match on Friday.
