Box Score Northfield, VT - Norwich University cruised to an 8-1 non conference men's tennis victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Wednesday afternoon. Norwich improves to 4-3 with the win, while Lyndon falls to 1-9 on the season.
Norwich prevailed in all three doubles matches to take early control of the match. The Cadets' Keagan Bakke and Sebastian Mucha won a closely contested 8-6 victory over Lyndon's Patrick Wickstrom (Lafayette, LA) and Jeffrey Blais (Newport, NY) at first doubles. In second doubles, Norwich's Patrick Bulley and Patrick O'Neal downed Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) and Bobby Saba (Mansfield, MA), 8-3. The Cadets completed the doubles sweep with a, 8-4 victory in third doubles, as William Flowers and Jack Lepage defeated Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) and Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater, MA).
Moving to singles, in the best match of the day, Wickstrom came back from a set down to pick up a win at first singles, as he defeated Bakke, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4. That would prove to be the Hornets' only win, as Norwich took wins in each of the other five flights. Bulley was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Falkenburg at second singles. At number three, Mucha beat Blais 6-1, 6-2. Lepage beat Webster and Isaac Chapman beat Saba, both by 6-0, 6-0 margins, at numbers four and five respectively. Molly Twombly was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Condon at sixth singles.
The Hornets will get back into North Atlantic Conference play and also hold Senior Day when they host NVU-Johnson on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
