Hornet men's tennis drops season opener to Division II St. Michael's

Box Score

Colchester, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team opened the 2022 season with perhaps their toughest challenge on the regular season schedule, a match at NCAA Division II St. Michael's College.  The Hornets dropped a 7-0 decision to the Purple Knights.  St. Michael's improves to 3-4 on the season.

St. Michael's took the doubles point by cruising to victory in all three flights.  The Purple Knight duo of Luke Ramsay and Jack Gunning defeated Lyndon's Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) and Bobby Saba (Mansfield, MA), 6-1, at third doubles.  St. Michael's won the first and second flights without dropping a game.

The Purple Knights also got the best of the Hornets in singles play.  Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) was Lyndon's most competitive player, as he fell to Tyler Whitney of Norwich, 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles.  St. Michael's Constantin Krogh was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Lyndon's Patrick Wickstrom (Lafayette, LA) at first singles.  Michael Rosen of St. Michael's defeated Lyndon's Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) in third singles.  The Purple Knights were 6-0, 6-0 winners in the other three singles matches.

The Hornets return to the courts on Saturday, March 19th, when they travel to Northern Vermont University-Johnson for a non-conference match.  The location and start time for the match have yet to be determined.
