Box Score Northfield, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Norwich University on Thursday afternoon. The host Cadets improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 1-4.
Norwich jumped in front by sweeping all three doubles matches. In the most competitive matchup, the Cadet duo of Patrick O'Neal and Isaac Chapman defeated Lyndon's Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) and Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater, MA), 8-3, in the third flight. Norwich won both first and second doubles by 8-1 margins.
The Cadets continued to get the better of the Hornets as play shifted to singles. The day's best match was at third singles, where O'Neal defeated Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2). First singles saw Keagan Bakke of Norwich defeat Patrick Wickstrom (Lafayette, LA) in two very competitive sets, 6-4, 6-3. Patrick Bulley of Norwich was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) in the second singles matchup. Norwich swept third, fourth, and fifth singles in straight sets without the Hornets winning a game.
Lyndon gets back into North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to SUNY Delhi for a key matchup. Play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
