Box Score Plattsburgh, NY - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a non-conference match at SUNY Plattsburgh on Tuesday afternoon. The host Cardinals came away with a 9-0 victory to improve to 3-5 on the season. The Hornets are winless in nine matches.
The Cardinals started things by rolling through all three doubles flights. Plattsburgh's Cydney Bond and Sarah Hoeffner were 8-1 winners over the Lyndon first doubles team of Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Renee Chaples (Palmer, MA) and the Cardinals won second and third doubles by 8-0 margins.
In singles play, Samantha Howe (Colebrook, NH) was the only Hornet to take more than a game. She came up short in sixth singles to Plattsburgh's Sophia Gottschall, 6-2, 6-1. Bond beat Porter, 6-0, 6-1 at first singles and Hoefner was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Devon Kibbey (Rutland, VT) at third singles. The Cardinals swept the other three flights without losing a game.
The Hornets expect to play one additional match against Northern Vermont University-Johnson in October in support and recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The date, time, and location of that match will be announced soon.
With no seniors on this fall's team, the Hornets expect to have their entire roster back as the foundation of the 2022 team.
