Box Score Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Johnson swept Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 9-0, in Friday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference women's tennis match. It was the first NAC match for both teams and the season opener for the Badgers. The Hornets are now winless in three starts.
Johnson jumped in front in doubles play. Kayla Knight and Metea Smith picked up the first point of the day with an 8-2 win over Lyndon's Renee Chaples (Palmer, MA) and Devon Kibbey (Rutland, VT) at second doubles. The Badgers then proceeded to pick up wins at first and third doubles to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Johnson then picked up wins at third and fourth singles without losing a game. They clinched the match in the process. The Badgers completed the sweep by winning the remaining singles flights. Lyndon's Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) fell 6-2, 6-2 to Mason Lores at first singles. Johnson's Rebecca Simon was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Rebekah Delgado (Jersey City, NJ) at second singles. With the match decided, Lyndon's Emma Powers (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Johnson's Amanda Rosalbo played the most competitive match of the day in sixth singles. Rosalbo eked out the 8-7 win by taking the tiebreaker, 8-6.
The Hornets will travel to Plymouth State University for a pair of matches this Sunday. Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
