Box Score Castleton, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team opened the 2021 campaign on the road at in-state rival Castleton University on Wednesday afternoon. The hosts took all nine matches to come away with the victory.
Play began with three doubles matches. Castleton took first flight without losing a game. The number two match was a bit more competitive, as Castleton's Megan Brier and Grace Sharkey knocked off Lyndon's Lauren Siciliano (Lynbrook, NY) and Danielle Robinson (Strafford, VT), 8-2. The Spartan duo of Makayla Boisvert and Mia Manheimer picked up an 8-1 win over the Hornets' Amber Everett (Morriville, VT) and Lexi Foley (Newburyport, MA) in third doubles.
Lyndon wouldn't fare any better when the match moved into singles competition. Manheimer picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Robinson at sixth singles and Sharkey bested Siciliano 6-0, 6-1 in the fourth flight. Castleton took the other four flights without losing a game.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday when they travel to Thomas College for a non-conference matchup. Play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
