Box Score Bangor, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon scored the first goal of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse game at Husson University. However the host Eagles then ran off 11 unanswered goals and cruised to a 17-2 victory. Husson improves to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in NAC play while Lyndon falls to 0-3 overall and in conference.
Taner Onor (East Montpelier, VT) got the Hornets on the scoreboard first 3:22 into the game when he fired a shot past Husson goalie Shawn Ragaglia. Husson's Ben Huyhn tied things with minutes to go in the quarter when he took a pass from Matthew Boynton and put it past Hornet goalie Aaron Florence (Lutz, FL). The Eagles took their first lead on Griffin Madore's unassisted goal with 1:14 left in the period. Husson outshot the Hornets 13-9 in the quarter.
Husson extended their lead to 3-1 when Jaden Wells found Gunner McAllister in front of the goal and McCallister's shot found the lower right corner of the goal a little over two mnutes into the second quarter. A minute and a half later the Hornets found themselves with a man-up advantage, but Husson's Roman Dennis capitalized on a Hornet turnover, took the ball the length of the field, and fired a shot past Florence to make it 4-1. McAllister then found Huynh for another score to make it 5-1 with 9:47 remaining in the quarter.
Husson's Danny Carter picked up another man-down goal at the 7:09 mark, then McAllister scooped up a rebound and scored. Carter and Wells both picked up man-up tallies in the final minutes to extend the Husson advantage to 9-1 at halftime.
Husson continued to add to their lead in the early stages of the third quarter. Carter scored off of the faceoff, just 13 seconds in, then Darryn Bailey picked up an unassisted goal five minutes later. Benjamin Cheever (Johnson, VT) finally broke the Husson scoring run when he took a pass from Luc Parrett (Eden Mills, VT) and fired it past Ragaglia at the 8:40 mark. Wells then tacked on one more goal for Husson, making it 12-2 after three quarters.
Carter scored three more times and Wells scored twice in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.
Husson outshot the Hornets 66-26 for the game. Ragaglia picked up the win in goal for the Eagles as he stopped eight Hornet shots. Florence took the loss, as he stopped 17 of 34 shots on goal. The Hornets were victimized by 31 turnovers while forcing Husson into 16 giveaways.
The Hornets are off until April 17th, when they open the home campaign against NAC leading Thomas College. Faceoff is set for 1:00 pm.
