Box Score Lyndonville, VT - Clarkson University blistered the nets in the opening half of Monday afternoon's men's college basketball game and host Northern Vermont University-Lyndon was never able to recover. The Golden Knights, playing for the first time in a month, came awau with a 104-71 victory to even their record at 2-2 on the season. The Hornets fall to 2-5.
Clarkson scored the game's first ten points and never looked back. The Knights connected on a blistering 15 of 22 from three-point range in the opening half to sprint out to a 67-34 advantage. Meanwhile the Hornets were ice cold, only connecting on 13 of 38 shots overall and 2 of 14 from distance in the opening stanza. Jason Phelps was a perfect four of four from the floor and tallied all of his 14 poitns in the first half to lead the Knight attack.
The Hornets and Knights played on even terms throughout the second half. Lyndon was able to cut the deficit to 73-49 at the 13:25 mark following Levi Haviland's (Poultney, VT) layup off of a feed from Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) but that was as close as Lyndon would get, as Clarkson coasted to the win.
Blake Gearhart came off of the bench to connect on seven of nine shots and lead Clarkson with 17 points. Reese Swedberg finished with 15 and a team best five rebounds. Phelps also collected five boards to go with his 14 points. Frankie Rainville and Joe Lucas also reached double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively. For the game the Knights connected on 18 of 36 shots from behind the arc and 41 of 73 overall.
Haviland was the only Hornet to reach double figures, as he finished with 12 points. He and Mondwell Bukle (Stuttgart, Germany) shared game rebounding honors with six boards apiece.
The Hornets will return to action on Thursday evening when they travel to NVU-Johnson for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
