Box Score New Hampton, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's lacrosse team fell behind Rivier University early and was unable to come back, falling 18-6 in a non-conference game played at New Hampton School on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets fall to 0-2 on the season while the Raiders improve to 3-2.
Rivier scored the first four goals of the game and were never headed. Jeffrey Potter led the Raider attack with five goals and three assists. Nick Ackerman added four goals and an assist and Corey Hicks chipped in three goals. Jacob Enwright scored twice and handed out three assists. Kyle Newman and Drew Fuller scored two goals each, with Newman also picking up a pair of assists. Potter and Enwright recorded nine ground balls each and Enwright caused a game high three turnovers.
Conor Brennan (Southington, CT) paced the Hornets with three goals. Jet Magri (Lincolnville, ME) scored twice and Chris Andes (Lusby, MD) picked up the other Lyndon goal. Gino Bonaventura (Peabody, MA) tallied a team high seven ground balls, with Magri and Taner Onor (East Montpelier, VT) picking up six ground balls each. Bonaventura caused three Rivier turnovers.
The Raiders outshot the Hornets 46-24. Raider goalie Ben Fitzpatrick made seven saves on 12 shots on goal to earn the win before giving way to Lachlan Rodgers for the final six minutes. Lyndon goalie Aaron Florence (Mandeville, LA) made 19 saves and was saddled with the loss. Rivier held a 42-25 advantage in ground balls and won 19 of 27 faceoffs.
Lyndon's scheduled games at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday and at Emmanuel College next Tuesday have been cancelled as a result of precautions taken by those respective college in response to the coronavirus threat. The Hornets' next scheduled game is currently scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, against Dean College.
