Box Score Lyndonville, VT - Thomas College shot over 63% from the floor on the way to a 100-83 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers improve to 8-6 on the season and 3-1 in NAC play, while the Hornets fall to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in conference.
After trading the lead several times in the opening minutes, Lyndon gradually forged ahead, taking their biggest lead at 34-24 on a Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) three-point goal with 7:33 to go in the opening half. With the Hornets still leading, 38-30, the Terriers capitalized on three straigt Lyndon turnovers to fuel an 11-0 run and regain the advantage. Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) tied things up with a three-pointer at the 2:45 mark, but layups from Justin Butler and Jacob Godfrey sandwiched around an Evan Arsenault three-pointer put Thomas up by seven. Peyton Olsen (Middleburgh, NY) then connected on a long three-pointer to narrow the Terrier lead to 48-44 at the half.
After Lyndon's Timothy Hoar (Shelburne Falls, MA) knocked down a jumper for the first poitns of the second half, the Hornets hit a 7:34 dry spell while Thomas ran off 19 unanswered points to take control of the contest. The Terriers extended their lead to as much as 24 points before settling for the 17-point win.
Thomas guard Demetris Webster was 9/11 from the floor, including 6/8 from behind the three-point line to pace Thomas with 24 points. Lovegeurson Fleurine and Zach MacKinnon each chipped in with 16 points and Butler, Jordan Goodson, and Godfrey all reached double figures with ten points apiece. Olsen was tops for the Hornets with 24 points while Denteh and Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) finished with 19 and 17 points respectively.
Thomas converted 41 of 65 shots (63.1%) in the game, including 14 of 29 (48.3%) from behind the three-point line. Lyndon connected on 28 of 67 attempts (41.8%), including 17 of 45 (37.8%) from long range. The Terriers dominated on the glass, 45-23, but committed 19 turnovers to 12 for the Hornets.
The same two teams will meet again next Friday evening at Thomas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
