Waterville, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team's strong play at the bottom of the lineup was the difference on Sunday, as the Hornets edged Thomas College, 5-4, in a North Atlantic Conference match.  The Hornets improve to 3-5 on the season and even their NAC record at 2-2 while the Terriers fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Lyndon took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as the #2 team of Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) and Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) defeated the Thomas pairing of Cassidy Hamm and Taylor Davis 8-4, and Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT) and  Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) downed Abigail Stevens and Makayla Guerette 8-5 at #3.  The Terriers' Alexis Nestor and Magan Williams defeated the Hornets' Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT) and Ro Ze Yar (Winooski, VT) 8-1 at first doubles.

In singles play, Nestor, Williams, and Davis posted victories over Dube, Jackson, and Achinda in the top three flights, with #1 and #2 ending in straight sets and Davis posting a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Achinda at #3.  Yar was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Hamm at #4, and Hayakawa downed Guerette 6-2, 6-1 at #6, evening the match.  With the outcome riding on the fifth singles matchup, Be outlasted Samantha Mercier 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Hornets.

The Hornets will travel to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a non-conference match on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.  Lyndon will then close out the regular season at home next weekend when they host SUNY Delhi and MCLA on Saturday and Sunday respectivley.
