Holderness, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team was swept, 9-0, by Plymouth State University in Wednesday's non-conference matchup at the Holderness School.  The loss drops the Hornets to 2-4 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 5-1.

Plymouth State started play by capturing all three doubles matches in convincing fashion.  The Hornet first doubles pairing of Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT) and Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) fell to the Panthers' Kira Winter and Megan Marshall, 8-2.  Plymouth picked up 8-0 wins in both second and third doubles.

The Panthers remained in control as play shifted to singles.  Lyndon's Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Plymouth's Lexi Smith at #6 singles.  Dube, Jackson, and Susmita Mangar (Winooski, VT) all fell by 6-1, 6-0 scores to the Panthers' Maggie McCarthy, Jenna Sundquist, and Brie Hada respectively and the Panthers swept the other singles flights without dropping a game.

Three Hornets, Xiaochun Li (Bennington, VT), Hailey Demers (Lyndon, VT), and Sage Morehouse (Sutton, VT) all made their in-competition debuts today.

The Hornets will travel to Maine this weekend for a pair of crucial Northa Atlantic Conference matchups.  On Saturday Lyndon faces Husson University in a 12:00 noon start, and on Sunday the Hornets will square off against Thomas College at 1:00 pm.
