Hornets have little trouble disposing of NVU-Johnson on Senior Day

Box Score

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's lacrosse team closed out their season with a 20-7 home win over NVU-Johnson on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hornets finish 4-8 on the season, winners of three of their final five games, and even their North Atlantic Conference mark at 3-3.  Johnson falls to 0-9 overall and finishes winless in six NAC starts.  Tuesday's win also gave Lyndon a point in the NVU President's Cup Challenge.

The Hornets wasted no time taking control against the Badgers.  Callan Singer (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Shea Jones (Hull, MA) each scored twice in the first four minutes.  Taner Onor (East Montpelier, VT), Spencer Aubin (Sharon, MA), Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA), and Jet Magri (Lincolnville, ME) followed with single goals as Lyndon extended their lead to 8-0 after one quarter.

The second quarter was more of the same, as Jones added two more scores and Onor, Aubin, and Brandon Hunter (Glastonbury, CT) tacked on one goal each as the Lyndon lead reached 13-0 before Josh Benak got Johnson on the scoreboard with 1:21 remaining before halftime.  Although Johnson was more competitive in the second half, they were never able to cut the Lyndon lead to less than 11 goals.

Jones finished with seven goals and four assists to lead the Hornets.  Aubin added four goals and an assist, while Singer posted two goals and two assists and Townsend chipped in with a goal and two asists.  Hunter recorded team bests with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.  Benak, Dave Legris, and Cesar Ortiz scored two goals apiece for the Badgers and Banak finished with a game high seven ground balls.

The Hornets outshot the Badgers 53-38 and held a 35-17 advantage in ground balls.  Lyndon forced 25 Johnson turnovers while committing 17 themselves.

Lyndon goalies Aaron Florence (Mandeville, LA) and Camden LeClair (Colchester, VT) combined for 15 saves, with Florence getting credit for the win.  Badger goalie Patrick Bell stopped 13 Lyndon shots on goal in taking the loss.

Prior to the game, Lyndon honored its five seniors, Aubin, Hunter, Jones, Nicholas Beaudreau (Rutland, VT), and Kiernan Brisson (Milton, VT), who were playing their final game in Hornet uniforms.
