Box Score Waterville, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 non-conference match at Thomas College on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Terriers even their season record at 3-3, while the Hornets fall to 0-3 with the loss.
Lyndon's first doubles team of Patrick Wickstrom (Lafayette, LA) and Neal Mulligan (Marshfield, VT) fell 8-2 to the Thomas team of Ryan Chasse and Kaleb Payson. The Terriers swept the other two doubles matches by 8-0 scores.
Moving to singles play, Mulligan and Payson played a competitive first set at #2 singles, with Payson prevailing 6-3. Payson then closed out the match with a 6-0 win in the second set. Wickstrom dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Chasse in first singles. Yontz Sutton of Thomas defeated the Hornets' Kyle Leighton (Burrillville, RI) 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles, while Christo Naranja defeated Jacob Nelson (Guildhall, VT) of Lyndon 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles. Thomas captured the other singles matches without losing a game.
The Hornets and Terriers will meet again in a North Atlantic Conference match April 14th at Lyndon. The Hornets are off until April 2nd, when they travel to Norwich University for a 1:00 pm match.
