Hornet men come up short in battle with Husson

Bangor, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team trailed defending North Atlantic Conference champion Husson University, 70-69, with 12:35 to go in Friday's North Atlantic Conference opener for both teams.  The Hornets were unable to get over the hump, however, as the Eagles held them off for a 94-83 win.  Husson evens their overall record at 3-3, while Lyndon falls to 3-5 on the season.

The Hornets led throughout the game's first 11 minutes, taking as much as a six point advantage.  Husson took their first lead of the contest at the 9:01 mark on a driving layup from Isiah Hart.  The Eagles then built on their lead, moving out to a 47-35 halftime advantage.

Husson extended their lead to 53-37 with 17:53 to go before the Hornets rallied.  Lyndon chipped away over the next five minutes, until Zach Falkenburg's (Bridgeport, NY) putback brought Lyndon within 60-59 with 12:35 to go.  Husson was able to hold Lyndon off, however, and come away with the 11-point win.

Bruce St. Peter topped six double figure scorers for Husson, finishing with 16 points.  Justin Thompson added 15 points and seven rebounds.  Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) led Lyndon with a game high 23 points, including six three-point goals.  Kyle Cary (Selkirk, NY) posted a double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets.  Falkenburg and Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Hornets return to action on Sunday afternoon when they play at Maine Maritime Academy in another NAC contest.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
