Box Score Poultney, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team broke open a close game in the second half, pulling away for a 52-36 non-conference victory at Green Mountain College on Wednesday afternoon. The Hornets move to 8-7 with the win, while the Eagles fall to 4-11.
Lyndon held a slim 23-20 advantage at halftime, but extended their lead to as much as 20 points in the second half. The Hornets made only 18 of 61 shots (29.5%), but held the Eagles to an even lower number as Green Mountain converted only 13 of 57 (22.8%) of their shots.
Alissa Mitchell (Milton, NH) posted a double double for the Hornets, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) scored a game high 17 points for Lyndon while Faith Poirier (Portsmouth, NH) connected on three three-point goals for nine points. Sharena Armstrong and Haleigh Benally scored eight points each to lead Green Mountain.
The Hornets return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm when they tip off at NVU-Johnson. That contest will also be a part of the NVU President's Cup Challenge.
