Presque Isle, ME - Vermont State University Lyndon wrapped up its regular season with a 65-41 North Atlantic Conference road victory at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday. With the win, the Hornets snapped a five game losing skid and improved to 14-11 overall and 9-9 in NAC play, while the Owls wrapped up their season at 3-21 overall and 2-16 in conference competition.
Lyndon used a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort throughout the afternoon. Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) led the Hornets with 14 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double in the paint. Hawa Mubarak (Burlington, VT) added 12 points, including eight straight in the third quarter as Lyndon pushed its lead from 12 to 20.
UMPI was led by Lindsay Hamilton, who notched a double double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Nevaeh Bello added 11 points for the Owls.
Lyndon dominated the game on the glass, outrebounding UMPI,, 60-38. That translated to the Hornets attempting 89 field goals to only 53 for the Owls.
The Hornets will now turn their attention to the North Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament. Lyndon will enter as the sixth seed, and will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday. Full tournament details will be released by the conference office on Monday.
