Box Score Johnson, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team traveled to Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday afternoon and came up on the short end of a 9-0 result. The loss drops the Hornets to 0-2 on the season. The match was the season opener for the Badgers, who with the win also moved a step closer to earning a point towards the NVU President's Cup.
Johnson started out by sweeping the three doubles matches. In first flight the Badgers' Grace Page and Mikayla Messier picked up an 8-3 win over the Hornets' Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) and Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT). Johnson took second and third doubles by 8-0 margins.
Johnson also swept six singles matches. Page beat Jackson 6-2, 6-0 in first flight. Lyndon's Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) was the only other Hornet player to capture more than one game, as she fell to Johnson's Sam Kershner 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth flight.
The Hornets return to action tomorrow when they travel to SUNY Plattsburgh for another non-conference matchup. Start time is 12:00 noon.
