Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team played at home for the first time this season as they opened up North Atlantic Conference play against NVU-Johnson.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, they came up on the short end of a 9-0 result.  Lyndon remains winless on the season, while Johnson improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC.  With the win, the Badgers also clinch the season series against the Hornets and earn a point towards the Northern Vermont University President's Cup.

The Badgers opened up the match by taking all three doubles flights.  In first doubles the Badgers' duo on Grace Page and Mikayla Messier picked up an 8-2 win over Lyndon's top team of Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) and Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT).  The Hornets' Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) and Roze Yar (Winooski, VT) gell 8-1 to Johnson's Sam Kershner and Rebecca Simon at second doubles.  Johnson took third doubles 8-0.

The Hornets didn't fare any better in singles play.  Hayakawa dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Kershner at third singles while Page knocked off Jackson 6-2, 6-1 at first singles.  Johnson's Leah Gadboury beat Lyndon's Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT) 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.  The Hornets were not able to win more than a single game in the other three singles flights.

The Hornets travel to Maine for a pair of matches this weekend.  On Saturday they will play Thomas College in another NAC matchup.  Start time is 1:00 pm.  On Sunday, Lyndon squares off against Husson University at 10:00 am in a non-conference matchup.
