Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lyndonville, VT - The venue changed, but the hot hitting continued as the Lyndon State College baseball team followed up on yesterday's doubleheader sweep at Colby-Sawyer College with another sweep of the Chargers this afternoon, this time at the Skip Pound Baseball Complex.  The Lyndon bats produced a total of 22 runs and 32 hits, including nine doubles and three triples on the day, as the Hornets took the opener, 6-3, and the nightcap, 16-5.  With the wins, the Hornets even their record at 14-14 on the season and improve to 10-4 in North Atlantic Conference play.  Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-22 overall and 1-13 in the NAC.

Game 1 - Lyndon 6, Colby-Sawyer 3

The Chargers jumped in front with an unearned run off of Hornet starter James Mundy (Brentwood, NH) in the top of the first inning of the opener.  Austin Butler (Saunderstown, RI) led off the game with a single up the middle.  He moved to second on an error and to third on Liam Datres de la Blotier's (Shelburne Falls, MA) sacrifice bunt, then scored on Connor Henry's (East Boston, MA) two out single.

The Hornets answered in the bottom of the first as Jason Doris (Lincoln, RI) and Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, CT) both singled.  Zak Johnson (East Hampton, CT) then delivered a two-out single, scoring Doris, and David Laroche (Franklin, VT) followed with a double, scoring Eason and Johnson, and making it 3-1 Lyndon after one.

Mundy set the side down in order in both the second and third innings and Colby-Sawyer starter Andrew Carbone (Lynnfield, MA) kept the Hornets off of the board in the bottom of the second.  Lyndon tacked on a run in the bottom of the third when Eason doubled and Johnson doubled him home.

The Chargers got one back in the top of the fourth inning when Joey Fenuccio (Keene, NH) drew a two out walk and scored on a double by Alec Burns (Enosburg Falls, VT).  Lyndon got the run right back in the bottom half of the inning when Eason delivered a two out single to score Ryan Cordiero (Rollinsford, NH).

Colby-Sawyer got within 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Butler drew a walk and eventually came in to score on a wild pitch.

The Hornets added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Tyler Roberge (Essex, VT) led off with a single to left.  Two outs later Eason was intentionally walked, then Codi Smith (Hartford, VT) doubled to center to score Roberge.  Andrew Whalen (Cumberland, RI) relieved Mundy and closed the door on the Chargers and picked up the save.

Eason and Johnson were both a perfect three for three at the plate.  Eason scored twice and drove in one run, while Johnson scored a run and drove in a pair.  Cordiero and Doris also had two hits, as Lyndon hitters produced six doubles out of their 13 hits.

Mundy allowed three runs, two earned, and four hits while striking out six over six innings, picking up the win.  Carbone went the distance for the Chargers and took the loss.  He allowed six runs on 13 hits and struck out four.

Game 2 - Lyndon 16, Colby-Sawyer 5

The Hornets put runs on the scoreboard in every inning of the nightcap, exploding for 19 hits, including three doubles and three triples.  Things got going in the bottom of the first inning.  After Cordiero reached on an error, Eason tripled to right to put the Hornets on the board.  Smith then singled home Eason.  After Johnson was hit by a pitch, Ryder Thorton (Essex, VT) singled home Smith to give the Hornets the early lead.

Hornet starter Jake Jourdain (Becket, MA) lost his control in the top of the second inning and Colby-Sawyer took advantage.  After Datres de la Blotier was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Burns reached on an error, AJ Cavossa ( Foxborough, MA) singled to load the bases.  Noah Yeingst singled in one run, then Brendan Barrett (Nashua, NH) was hit by a pitch to score another.  Three wild pitches then scored a pair of runs, and nearly led to another but for Hornet catcher Throwing out Yeingst at the plate.  Jourdain was able to steady things and avoid further damage, but the Chargers now had a 4-3 lead.

Lyndon regained the lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second.  Doris and Eason delivered back to back singles, then Smith cleared the bases with a triple to right, putting the Hornets back in front, 5-4.

The Hornets tacked on two more unearned runs with two out in the bottom of the third inning.  Cordiero singled in one run, then Collin Clark (Rutland, VT) scored another when he and Cordiero completed a double steal.

The Chargers got back within 7-5 in the top of the fourth inning when Butler walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Fenuccio's sacrifice fly.  Eason led off the bottom of the inning with a single, then Smith was hit by a pitch.  Johnson then reached on an infield single to load the bases.  Thorton then singled to left, driving in Eason and smith and making it 9-5, Hornets.

After Jourdain set the Chargers down in order to start the fifth inning, Lyndon pushed across another run in the home half when Eason doubled and Smith drove him home.

Lyndon broke the game completely open with six runs on five hits  in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Ben Rollins (Lincolnville, ME) reached on an error to start the inning.  After pinch hitter Michael Pena (New City, NY) walked, Cordiero laced a double to left to score Rollins.  Three straight singles from Doris, Eason, and Smith drove in three more runs, then pinch hitter Tucker Root (Middlefield, CT) doubled to the left field wall, driving in two more.

Jourdain picked up the win, going five innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking two.  Neil Robinson (Stoddard, NH) and Dennis Farnham (Orono, ME) each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.  Ryan Glendye (Litchfield, NH) went five innings for the Chargers and took the loss.  He allowed ten runs, seven earned, on 14 hits.

Eason and Smith had monster games at the plate for Lyndon.  Eason was five for five with a double and a triple andscored five runs while driving in two.  Smith was four for four with five runs batted in and three runs scored.  Thorton had three hits and drove in three runs, while Cordiero and Doris each had a pair of hits.

The Hornets will return to action on Friday afternoon when they host Castleton University in a 2:00 pm doubleheader.  Friday will be Senior Day, as Lyndon will honorr its senior baseball players prior to the opening game.  Colby-Sawyer will travel to Castleton on Wednesday.
