Hornets dominate Johnson on Senior Day

Lyndonville, VT - The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 23-3 North Atlantic Conference victory over Johnson State College on Monday afternoon.  The Hornets close the regular season at 6-8 overall and 3-4 in NAC play, while Johnson ends its season winless in ten games, including seven conference starts.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard 2:20 into the opening period when James Ceglia (Oyster Bay, NY) scored unassisted.  Zachary Carey (Exeter, NH) scored another unassisted goal two minutes later, and Logan Parenti (Salem, NH) won the ensuing faceoff and went right to the goal for another score to make it 3-0 Hornets with 11:48 remaining in the opening period.  Ethan Wehse (Stowe, VT) got Johnson on the board with a man-up goal at the 10:29 mark.  Neither team could find the back of the net for the next ten minutes, until Lyndon's Spencer Aubin (Sharon, MA) tallied with just eight seconds remaining in the quarter to make it 4-1, Hornets, after one.

Carey scored a man-up goal, taking a feed from Shea Jones (Hull, MA), at the 8:45 mark of the second quarter.  Johnson won the ensuing faceoff, but Parenti quickly forced a Badger turnover and found Carey for another score 20 seconds later.  Aubin then found the back of the net for Lyndon's third goal in a 27 second stretch to extend the Hornet lead to 7-1.

Justin Servidori (Yarmouth, MA) picked up an unassisted goal at the 7:06 mark of the second quarter, then Carey and Parenti quickly followed to put the Hornets in front, 10-1.  Lyndon tacked on three more goals in the last 1:23 of the quarter.  First Jones found Aubin for a score, then Parenti found Nicholas Norheim (Danville, VT).  Tom Lanza (Hebron, CT) then scored unassisted to send the Hornets into half with a 13-1 advantage.

Lyndon continued to dominate play after the break, as Ceglia found Parenti for a score 2:10 into the third quarter.  Servidori nothced a goal a minute later when Aubin found him after forcing a turnover and recovering the ensuing ground ball.  Konnor Bick (North Syracuse, NY) got into the act with a man-up goal at the 5:39 mark of the quarter.  Two minutes after that Johnson's Wehse scored his second goal of the game with an assist from Travis Benson (Underhill, VT).  Ceglia and Lanza both found the net in the final minute of the quarter to make the score 18-2, Lyndon, after three.

The Hornets tacked on five more goals in the final quarter, as Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA), Conor Brennan (Southington, CT), Servidori, Jet Magri (Lincolnville, ME), and Bick each picked up one goal in the quarter.  Benson was able to pick up a Johnson goal, off of an assist from Gerrit Lane (Moretown, VT).

Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, NH) picked up the win in goal for the Hornets, stopping eight of 11 Johnson shots on goal.  Patrick Bell (Charlestown, RI) made 20 saves for the Badgers in taking the loss.

Lyndon outshot Johnson, 64-18, and held a 52-30 advantage in ground balls.  The Hornets dominated at the faceoff X, as Servidori won 11 of 12 and Parenti won 15 of 18.

Prior to the game the Hornets recognized seniors Bessette, Parenti, Bick, Carey, Timmy Scanlon (Richmond, VT), Kendrick Mills (Bellows Falls, VT), and Dan Stein (Howell, NJ), who all played their final regular season game in a Hornet uniform.  They were greeted on the field by their families and head coach Kevin Pezanowski, and thanked for their contributions to the program.

Lyndon has been seeded #5 for the upcoming NAC Championship Tournament.  The Hornets will play a NAC Quarterfinal contest on Saturday afternoon at Maine Maritime Academy.  Game time is to be announced.
