Box Score Waterville, ME – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team produced one of its best defensive efforts of the season, coming within 56 seconds of a shutout in defeatiing Thomas College, 9-1, on Saturday night. The Hornets improve to 5-8 (2-4 NAC) on the year and clinch a North Atlantic Conference playoff berth with the win. The Terriers drop to 2-7 (2-4 NAC).
Lyndon scored three first half goals from three different scorers as Conor Brennan (Southington, CT), Shea Jones (Hull, MA), and Konner Bick (North Syracuse, NY) put the Hornets up 3-0 before the halftime break.
In the second half, Lyndon continued to pull away as they outscored Thomas 6-1 to secure the 9-1 victory. Zachary Carey (Exeter, NH) recorded a hat trick in the second half for the Hornets, with Jones adding a pair of scores and Brennan finding the back of the net once more.
Jones and Carey each finished with three goals in the win while Jones added three assists, four caused turnovers, and seven ground balls. Brennan tallied a pair of markers on five shots. Long stick Brandon Hunter (Glastonbury, CT) recorded five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Johnathan Wilcox (Palmyra, ME) scored the lone Thomas goal with 56 seconds remaining to break the shutout. Colby Blondin (Colchester, VT) recorded 11 shots and four ground balls for the Terriers.
Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, NH) made 11 saves in goal to pick up the win for Lyndon while Connor Lamberton (Shohola, PA) turned aside 19 shots for Thomas.
The Hornets will close the regular season on Monday afternoon when they host Johnson State College in a 3:30 pm Senior Day tilt. The Terriers will host Maine Maritime Academy on Monday.
