Hornet men's lacrosse unable to get offense going in loss to Castleton

Castleton, VT - The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team was unable to get their offense going on Thursday evening, as the Hornets fell to Norht Atlantic Conference leading Castleton University, 12-1.  The Hornets fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in conference, while the Spartans improved to 7-5 on the season and 4-0 in conference.

Kevin McCarthy (Sayville, NY) led Castleton with three goals, while Tyler Crowningshield (Vergennes, VT) finished with two goals and two assists. Colin Clark (Rutland, VT) also scored two goals and Kyle Lutinski (New Fairfield, CT) dished out two assists of his own.

Clark put the Spartans on the board 3:45 into the contest, followed by Crowningshield's first goal of the night with 5:04 remaining in the first period. McCarthy scored his first two goals just 46 seconds apart to extend the Castleton lead to 4-0 after the first period.

Crowningshield set up Clark for his second goal of the game 2:27 into the second period, and then Adnane Adossama (South Burlington, VT) scored midway through the period. Crowningshield's second goal of the match gave the Spartans a 7-0 advantage at halftime.

McCarthy completed his hat trick 1:20 into the third period off an assist by Wyatt Pickrell (Newmarket, Ontario), and then Adossama assisted on Shane Centerbar's (Burlington, VT) goal just 79 seconds later. Taking advantage of an extra-man opportunity, Lutinski found Ryan Stone (Laconia, NH) to make it 10-0 Castleton.

Midway through the third period, Sam Siegel (Brattleboro, VT) scored off an assist by Crowningshield. With 1:48 left in the third period, Nick Aleksonis (Weare, NH) sent a shot into the back of the net.

The Hornets broke through 49 seconds into the fourth period on an extra-man opportunity, as Konner Bick (North Syracuse, NY) found Shea Jones (Hull, MA) on the right side for his 21st goal of the season. That would be the final tally for either team despite the fact that the Hornets took 10 shots, equaling their total from the previous three periods combined.

Castleton outshot Lyndon 44-20 and held a 28-16 advantage in ground balls.  The Spartans also held a 12-3 advantage at the faceoff X.  Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, NH) made 12 saves in goal for the Hornets, while Castleton goalies Brandon Myron (Rensselaer, NY) and Maxx Ingison (Manchester, VT)combined for five saves.

The Hornets will host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm.  Castleton will host Thomas College on Saturday.
