Box Score Henniker, NH - The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team traveled to New England College on Wednesday afternoon and came up on the short end of an 18-5 final score. The North Atlantic Conference contest was originally scheduled to be played at Lyndon, but was moved to NEC due to field conditions. The Hornets fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NAC, while the Pilgrims improve to 4-4 and 2-0 in conference.
NEC's Connor Fries (Barnstable, MA) opened the scoring at the 13:37 mark of the opening quarter, assisted by Matt Richard (Weare, NH). The Hornets tied things at 1-1 just under four minutes later when Shea Jones (Hull, MA) tallied a man up goal after a feed from Spencer Aubin (Sharon, MA). Back to back goals from Fries and Charles Hacking (Canterbury, NH) put the Pilgrims in front, 3-1, but Jones picked up another man up tally, this time off of an assist from Jet Magri (Lincolnville, ME) to cut the NEC lead to 3-2 with 2:21 remaining in the opening quarter. Reed Foster (Peabody, MA) scored off of another Richard assist with just 14 seconds to go in the quarter to make it 4-2, NEC, after one.
The Pilgrims took control of the contest in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Five different Pilgrims found the net in that span, with Richard assisting on three of the goals. Lyndon's Zachary Carey (Exeter, NH) stopped the bleeding at the 9:16 mark, as he found the net after a feed from Justin Servidori (Yarmouth, MA) to cut the margin to 9-3, Pilgrims. Richard then assisted on three more goals over the remainder of the quarter, to three more different players, and NEC headed to halftime with a 12-3 advantage.
NEC continued to control play in the third quarter, as Hacking sandwiched a pair of goals around one from Patrick Storie (Williamstown, MA) to make the score 15-3, NEC, after three.
The Pilgrims scored twice more to start the fourth quarter, before James Ceglia (Oyster Bay, NY) picked up Lyndon's fourth goal of the game with 5:26 to go. Reilly Parker (Pitsfield, MA) recorded the final tally for NC, then Magri scored off of an assist from Jones to account for the final score.
The Pilgrims outshot the Hornets, 68-23, and held a 41-19 advantage in ground balls. NEC face off men Austin Frankel (Peabody, MA) and Christian Russo (Chesire, CT) had a big day at the X, controlling 22 of 25 draws. Hornet goalie Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, NH) saved 19 of 37 shots on goal, while Pilgrim goalie Anthony Martino (Marlboro, NJ) made ten save on 15 Hornet shots on goal.
The Hornets are off until Saturday, April 7th, when they will take on Green Mountain College at Castleton University. The starting time is to be announced so check back on lyndonhornets.com for updates. NEC travles to the University of New England tomorrow.
