Box Score Paxton, MA - The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team fell behind Anna Maria College 5-1 after one period and never recovered, dropping a 17-7 decision on Thursday evening. The Hornets fall to 1-4 on the season while the AMCATS improve to 2-1.
Anna Maria's Cameron Perry (Coventry, RI) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first minute of the game. Jacob Smith (Belchertown, MA) made it 2-0, AMCATS before Shea Jones (Hull, MA) found the net for a man up goal off of an assist from Spencer Aubin (Sharon, MA) to get the Hornets on the board. Jake Klemba (South Windsor, CT) then sandwiched two goals around one from Brandon Pavoni (Granby, MA) to give Anna Maria a 5-1 lead after one period.
Each team scored twice in the second period, as goals Lyndon's Konner Bick (North Syracuse, NY) and James Ceglia (Oyster Bay, NY) were countered by tallies from Anna Maria's Brandon Seymour (Chicopee, MA) and Pavoni. The AMCATS headed into halftime with a 7-3 advantage.
Anna Maria broke the game open with five unanswered goals from five different players in the third period. The hosts then outscored Lyndon, 5-4, in the fourth period to account for the final score. Pavoni found the net once in each period to finish with four goals for the game. Bick and Jones each picked up their second goal of the game during the final stanza.
Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, NH) stopped 14 of 31 shots on goal for the Hornets while three Anna Maria goalies combined to make nine stops. The AMCATS outshot the Hornets, 50-29 and held a 46-14 advantage in ground balls.
Lyndon is scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference play at Castleton University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Anna Maria will host Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
