Pittsfield, MA - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis team made its first post-season appearance since 2013 on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, they ran into unbeaten Husson University in the North Atlantic Conference semi-finals and came up on the short end of a 5-0 result.  The tournament was hosted by Massachusetts Colelge of Liberal Arts and played at the Berkshire West Athletic Club.  Lyndon ends its season at 2-9, while Husson remains unbeaten on the season.  The Eagles went on to defeat Lesley University later Saturday afternoon to capture the NAC Championship.

Lyndon's first doubles team of Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) and Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) fell 8-1 to the Husson team of Meridith Blessard and Ashley Matlock.  They would turn out to be the only Hornet entry to capture a game.  The Hornets' second and third doubles teams both fell by 8-0 margins.

Entering singles play Husson only needing two wins in five matches to clinch the match.  The Eagles' Natalie Tilton and Hannah Malinen picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories over Lyndon's Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan) and Roze Yar (Winooski, VT) in third and fourth singles respectively to close things out and advance to the conference championship match.

Head coach Laura Laramee was very pleased with the program's progress this season and optimistic about the future.  "The team showed tremendous effort despite the scores.  For example, Faibe's returns of serves were the best I have seen all season with effort on every point.  Savannah had some of the most lazar beam attacking backhands that drove her opponent off the court numerous times.  Most improved player this season was Oo Mai Be.  She has developed long rally's against her opponents because of her competitive and mental toughness.  I am very proud of this team for coming so far in such a short time.  They have such heart and spirit that comes out of them each and every match .  With having 6 returning players we are looking forward to next year!!!!"
