Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's soccer team rode a strong defensive effort and outstanding goalkeeping from Victoria McCormack (East Lyme, CT) to a 1-0 non-conference win over Norwich University on a wet and rainy Varsity Field Wednesday afternoon.  The Hornets improve to 5-7-1 on the season while the Cadets fall to 6-7-1.  Lyndon is 3-0-1 in their last four contests, and has clinched the program's best record since the 2011 campaign.

Norwich got the better of the play throughout the match, as they held a 38-4 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.  The Hornets' defensive posture kept the Cadets off of the scoreboard, however, as McCormack made 13 saves in goal and Lyndon defenders also blocked multiple shots.  Norwich also posted two shots and hit the crossbar with another.

Meanwhile, the Hornets played it close to the vest and only managed three shots on goal until the 89th minute.  At that point Jessica Hillman (Gardener, ME) ran onto a long ball from EmmaLee Smith (Woodsville, NH) and found herself with a breakaway.  Hillman's shot from about ten yards out beat Cadet keeper Lindsey Gordon and found the lower right corner of the net for the only goal of the game.

The Hornets will close the regular season with two pivotal North Atlantic Conference contests.  They travel to Husson University this Saturday, then to the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday, October 23rd.  Lyndon is currently tied with SUNY Canton for the final NAC playoff berth.
