Lyndonville, VT - In their final home game of the 2025 season, the Vermont State University Lyndon women's soccer team picked up their first win in over two years, coming away with a 2-0 victory over in-state rival Vermont State University Randolph. The Hornets (1-10) tasted victory for the first time since a 13-0 win over Bay Path University on October 10, 2023. The win also avenged a 5-0 defeat at the hands of VTSU Randolph (1-12) just four days ago.
The Hornets scored their first goal of the season in the 15th minute. Malia Wilson (East Hartford, CT) served up a ball into the box. After a misplay by the Randolph keeper, Sydney Clunis (Windsor, ON) found herself with the ball and an open net. Clunis put the ball into the open net to give the Hornets the lead.
Lyndon added to its lead in the 21st minute. Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) served up a beautiful ball from the left wing, and Honey Benskin (Germantown, MD) headed it into the upper right corner of the net, making the score 2-0, Hornets.
The Lyndon defense, anchored by Wilson and Van Olst, took over from there. Hornet goalkeeper Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) turned away all five Randolph shots on goal to post the clean sheet.
The Hornets outshot the Knights, 16-9, and earned seven corner kicks to three for Randolph. Sara Murphy relieved Knight starting keeper Ashley Cannon-Harris in the 28th minute and stopped all four Hornet shots that she faced.
Lyndon wraps up its season on Wednesday, when they travel to the State University of New York at Canton for a 4:00 pm non-conference contest.
