Hornet Women's Tennis captures Senior Day win over Green Mountain

Box Score

Greensboro, VT - The Lyndon State College women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 5-4 win over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon.  The North Atlantic conference matchup was played at the Mountain View Country Club.  Lyndon's win was the Hornets' first in ten matches and improved their NAC record to 1-5.  Green Mountain fell to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in conference.

Prior to today's matches, Lyndon's lone senior, Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, ME) and her parents were honored by her teammates and coaches.  She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a poster and card containing personal messages from the team.

Jones and sophomore Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT) came up just short in their 1st doubles matchup against Green Mountain's Janelle O'Connell (Colrain, MA) and Claire Chapman (Litchfield, CT), falling 8-6.  Jones made amends, however, and capped off her day and her Lyndon career with an 8-2 win over the Eagles' Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, NJ) at 1st singles.

Lyndon sophomore Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, VT) won her 4th singles match, 8-2, over Green Mountain's Danjung Yoon (Daejeon, South Korea).  The Hornets also received forfeit wins at 3rd doubles and 5th and 6th singles.  Besides their 1st doubles victory, Green Mountain picked up wins at 2nd doubles and 2nd and 3rd singles.

The Hornets will host SUNY Plattsburgh on Sunday afternoon at noon at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center on Lyndon's campus.  Green Mountain will host SUNY Delhi on Sunday.
