Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team struggled early against Daniel Webster College Monday afternoon, eventually falling to the Eagles 10-6.
Ian Pelkey (Milton, Vt.) led the Hornets (5-4, 2-0 NAC) with four goals and an assist while adding a team-high six ground balls. Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) and Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.) picked up a goal and an assist apiece.
Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) and Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, N.H.) split goalkeeping duties with five saves each in their respective halves.
Tre Mason notched three goals for the Eagles (5-5, 1-1 NECC) while Brandon Beard also picked up three, Gavin Abbot registered two with an assists and Matt Ho also scored twice. Matt Capozzi won 14 of 17 faceoffs.
James Bushey made nine stops in the win.
Beard put DWC up 1-0 in the opener off an Abbot pass at the 8:39 mark and the score remained until Mason made it 2-0 30 ticks into the second and then followed with his second of the game on the man advantage five minutes later.
Pelkey put Lyndon on the board with 4:29 to go before the break only to see Beard answer 24 seconds later and Abbott upped things to 5-1 with 3:24 left.
Abbott made it 6-1 2:01 into the third and Ho made it 7-1 two-plus minutes later.
A Pelkey strike stemmed the bleeding for the Hornets with 2:11 to go in the frame but Ho added his second of the game less than a minute later. Beard beat the clock with 17 seconds to go for a 9-2 game heading into the fourth.
Mason's final goal, with 6:51 left put DWC in command at 10-2 but Lyndon awoke late with Pelkey striking twice 34 ticks apart and Aubin made things interesting with 2:05 to go cutting the lead to 10-5.
Jones trimmed the deficit to four with 94 seconds remaining but DWC controlled the faceoff and helped wind the clock down to secure the victory.
The Hornets host Green Mountain Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to get back to conference play.
The Eagles visit Wheelock on April 19.
