Box Score RUTLAND, Vt. - The Lyndon State College men's tennis team opened up North Atlantic Conference play with a close 6-3 loss to Green Mountain College at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season while the Hornets fell to 1-4.
The Eagles opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches. GMC's pairing of Truman Cressey and Kei Sako swung past the Hornet's Tyler Hall and Jake LaCerda in No. 1 doubles, 8-3. The GMC duo of Eric Wade and Pierce Caldwell eked past Lyndon in second flight doubles over Michael Sigsbury and Dylan Cherko, 9-7. Javier Lugris and Dakoata Dodson handed Neal Mulligan and Ken Niemann a loss in number three doubles, 8-2.
Green Mountain clinched the match by taking three of six singles matches, with the sixth match played as pro sets due to time constraints. Cressey fell to Lyndon's Hall in a marathon match in first flight singles 6-1, 5-7, 2-6. GMC's Sako defeated LaCerda in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in No. 2 singles. Lyndon's Sigsbury used a pair of 6-2 match wins to defeat Wade in third flight singles. Caldwell gave the Eagles the win in fourth flight singles with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Cherko. Lugris defeated Mulligan in number five singles, 6-2, 6-3 while Daisuke Kon lost his first match of the year in the final pairing to Niemann, 7-8.
Lyndon continues on Tuesday as well with a non-conference tilt at Thomas at 4:00 p.m. Green Mountain will travel to Sage to take on the Gators on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Prospect Park.
